Question by Nuc Dev: When anti-Modi and anti-BJP people talk about 2002 Gujarat riots killing minorities, why do they forget 1984?
Official estimates puts the death toll of the 2002 Gujarat riots at 1044 with 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus killed, while unofficial estimates puts the figure closer to 2000 people, with Muslims making up 1250 of those killed.
However, why do these people forget that the 1984 Sikh Genocide claimed the lives of 3500 Sikhs (official estimate although human rights organizations and newspapers report the death toll to be 10,000-17,000), this is way more than the 1250 Muslims killed in Gujarat.
“On October 31, Congress party officials provided assailants with voter lists, school registration forms, and ration lists. The lists were used to find the location of Sikh homes and business, an otherwise impossible task because they were located in unmarked and diverse neighborhoods. On the night of October 31, the night before the massacres began, assailants used the lists to mark the houses of Sikhs with letter “S”. In addition, because most of the mobs were illiterate, Congress Party officials provided help in reading the lists and leading the mobs to Sikh homes and businesses in the other neighborhoods. By using the lists the mobs were able to pinpoint the locations of Sikhs they otherwise would have missed.” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_anti-Sikh_riots
“Let me begin with a set of disclosures: I have perhaps written more articles against Modi and his handling of the post-Godhra scenario than most people have; I have called him a modern-day Hitler and have always said that Godhra shall remain an enduring blemish not just on him but on India’s political class. I still believe that what happened in Gujarat during the Godhra riots is something we as a nation will pay a heavy price for. But the fact is that time has moved on. As has Narendra Modi.
He is not the only politician in India who has been accused of communalism.
It is strange that the whole country venerates the Congress Party as the secular messiah but it was that party that presided over the riots in 1984 in which over 3,500 Sikhs died: thrice the number killed in Gujarat. ”

While these pro-Congressis and pseudo-seculars attack and criticize Narendra Modi and the Gujarat Government for his handling of the 2002 riots, they turn a blind eye to the fact that the Congress Party government presided over the attacks on our Sikh brothers and sisters where the death toll was much, much greater.
I agree that all rioting and killing of innocent people is wrong, but don’t forget that the Sikhs make up a smaller minority of India’s population compared to the Muslims. So the 1984 Sikh Genocide was a greater loss to the country’s Sikhs and the country’s secular nature than the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Muslims with 15% votes which vote en block are king makers in every election. So Modi becomes favorite whipping boy not because of any truth but merely because it gets castiest or non secular parties to win elections. Those who seek enbloc muslims votes are obviously non secular. Winning elections is all that matters let India get more backward under laloo or INC (Indian national corruption).

Riot Politics: Hindu-Muslim Violence and the Indian State (Columbia/Hurst)
On February 27, 2002, a train coach caught fire just outside a railway station in Gujarat, killing fifty-eight people. The incident initiated one of the worst outbreaks of Hindu-Muslim violence since India’s independence. As mobs of Hindus thronged the streets of Gujarat’s cities and villages, local and state-level politicians made inflammatory speeches and distributed weapons for revenge, excusing the police from their responsibility to protect citizens from harm. In the end, the bloodshed clai

Gujarat riot victims fight for son’s custody
A Muslim family in Gujarat is fighting for the custody of their son who went missing during the 2002 riots, and is now being raised by a Hindu family. Muzaffar Shaikh was three-years-old when 59 people were burnt alive in Gulberg Society. He ran away from rioters with his aunt Firoza Banu and was not heard of ever since. Six years on, his family traced him but he would no longer recognise his biological parents.
This Video is in the Hindi/Urdu Language: Maya Kodnani, a minister in the Narendra Modi government accused of instigating a mob during the Anti-Muslim Gujarat riots of 2002, claims she is innocent. Kodnani was declared an absconder by a Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team on February 2. She, along with Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Jaideep Patel, is wanted for Naroda Patiya riots, one of the most infamous cases of the post-Godhra riots. Speaking exclusively with CNN-INDIA, Kodnani said she was innocent but will not reveal details of her whereabouts. [02:52 hrs IST]
